1. Give Now to Maximize 2025 Tax Benefits Encourage your donors to make their gifts before December 31, 2025. Next year, new rules will make it harder for many donors to claim tax deductions. In 2026, they'll need to give more than 0.5% of their income to qualify. This may make 2025 the sweet spot for giving. Quick Tip: Include information about December 31 tax advantages as a P.S. in your email outreach.

2. New Deduction for Non-Itemizers Starting in 2026 Good news for donors who take the standard deduction: starting next year, they can deduct up to $1,000 ($2,000 for couples) in cash donations, even without itemizing. Quick Tip: Save this information for your 2026 outreach and remember to let donors know about the opportunity to claim a deduction even if they don’t itemize.

3. Education Tax Credits Coming in 2027 A new federal program will let donors give up to $1,700 to education scholarship organizations and receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit. This means families could access funds for tutoring, afterschool programs, transportation, and other educational needs, at essentially no cost to donors. Check whether your state participates, as this could open new funding opportunities. Quick Tip: Some schools may want to explore forming an SGO once more guidance is released.
